The Right Tools, the Right Teaching, the Right Time

My former college teammate, Bill Furlong—now the head football coach at Haddon Township High School in New Jersey—shared something interesting with me at the South Jersey O-Line Clinic.

He took my offensive line manual, fed it into an AI tool, and had it generate a podcast based on the content. The result is worth a listen. It’s fascinating to hear what the AI identified as the core concepts—and maybe even more telling to notice what it left out. You can listen in the audio player pasted here:

The manual itself covers the technical and tactical aspects of the run game, pass protection, and the screen game. It’s material we’ve been teaching at our clinics for more than 25 years, built on nearly four decades of experience in the trenches. For coaches, it’s a valuable resource to revisit throughout the season—a way to reinforce fundamentals and sharpen understanding.

That said, it doesn’t replace the value of live instruction. There’s no substitute for hands-on coaching, real-time correction, and the ability to connect technique to execution on the field.

If you’re in the area, you and your players can join us this Sunday at the Alercio O-Line Clinic in West Orange, NJ. Manuals will be available on-site for $10. If you can’t make it, I’m happy to mail you a copy for $20 (Venmo accepted).

Coach Rich Alercio is available to discuss coaching philosophy, X’s & O’s, or teach his O-Line “techniques in the trenches.” Contact Coach at richalercio@gmail.com and share http://www.olineskills.com with your colleagues and friends. Thanks for supporting this blog and joining our conversations, and as always, thanks for your time!
